The Winey Cow
- The Winey CowRestaurant Menu, Stationery and Packaging
- This project was a branding and packaging project for which I was also given the task to name the restaurant. The client was looking at starting a new restaurant that would sell wine and cheese platters, and was looking for a typographic logo and a menu and packaging set that would help define the restaurant. Being a creative client themselves, they wanted a brand that would subtly demonstrate the restaurant’s edginess.
I chose to create a logo that would represent the essence of both wine and cheese: style in age. The vintage logo, modelled in the style of old wood-type, was hence used in this way to represent well-aged wine and cheese. I wanted to take a simple approach to the branding in order to highlight a contrast
with the complex flavours of the menu. On top of this, I was also able to work with the client to define
the names of the platters to keep with the theme of the restaurant.
I was also able to incorporate these methods into the stationery. The menus fold up into neat little squares and are encased in special envelopes. These were designed this way in the hope that people might keep them as mementos, in turn reminding the guests to visit again. The various circular stamps on the business cards and other collateral demonstrate the brand’s quirkiness and shows off the fun side of the brand. I designed the packaging for the take-home cheeses as a wrap made from special French paper with the logo in pattern form, sealed with a stamp. Lastly, the wine labels were designed separately from the rest of the stationery, so I went for a more eccentric approach, once again to embody the fun-ness of the brand.
