Charlotte Fosdike was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1990 and currently resides in Newcastle, UK since 2013. After graduating in 2011 from her diploma in advertising and graphic design, she continues her work as a multidisciplinary graphic designer, artist and visual storyteller. Since initiating a freelance career in the ned of 2011, her strong creative talent has gained her global clientele and recognition.
From 2018, Charlotte works as Creative Director and artist-in-residence at Ampersand Inventions. Her art and design visually encapsulates stories. She has developed a sense of identifying and communicating these stories concealed in the background of a client’s brand or her everyday life. Her work is distinguishable by its minimalistic style, the simplified content resonating profound meaning.
Charlotte’s art births from her design work’s storytelling philosophy. Following a touching experience of Tina Mouraud - A Retrospective at the Centre de Pompidou, Paris (2015), she began to seriously develop her fine art practice. Her art methodically expresses an object’s inherent story, the spotlight she provides liberating the object from silence. With activist overtones, she allows the work to carry social meaning to the viewer.
Her work forms through minimal manipulation and the simple gesture of isolating an object and facilitating, not controlling, the exposure of its inherent beauty. Charlotte’s latest series, Refrigerator and Drip, exhibit her visual storytelling abilities as found-objects are esteemed through innovate blends of photography, sculpture and paint.
Currently, Charlotte is gravitating from her maturing design expertise and developing her artistic practice - navigating this transitional process as it develops. She is experimenting with various mediums, aiming to develop skills to capture stories through the mediums they require.
